Aerodigestive Program at Montefiore (ADAM)

The Division of Pediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine is an integral part of the Aerodigestive Program at Montefiore (ADAM). The Aerodigestive Program is composed of a unique, multidisciplinary team devoted to the medical and surgical management of complex pediatric airway disorders, swallow disorders and sleep abnormalities. Our team consists of specialists in pediatric pulmonology, otolaryngology (ENT), pediatric gastroenterology, general surgery, speech pathology and genetics. We provide a multidisciplinary evaluation to ensure comprehensive, highly-specialized care for your child. We use flexible fiber-optic bronchoscopy to diagnose and treat this wide range of pediatric respiratory diseases. Our team specializes in the treatment of children, from newborns to age 21, with conditions including:

  • Aspiration-related lung disease
  • Asthma that is difficult to control
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Bronchomalacia
  • Bronchopulmonary dysplasia and premature lung
    disease with other problems
  • Chronic cough
  • Chronic lung disease
  • Chronic or recurrent pneumonias
  • Complete tracheal rings
  • Congenital or acquired airway disease due to
    accident or intubation
  • Eosinophilic esophagitis
  • Feeding difficulties or aversion
  • Gastroesophageal reflux with breathing problems
  • Laryngeal cleft
  • Laryngeal and tracheal stenosis
  • Laryngomalacia and tracheomalacia
  • Obstructive sleep apnea

Together, we provide a multidisciplinary evaluation and then hold a conference, which may include additional pediatric airway specialists, such as anesthesiologists, pediatric critical care specialists, pediatric radiologists and members of our highly-skilled nursing staff, with all participants drawing on their particular capabilities to devise the best surgical and medical treatment plan possible.
