Pediatric Residency Program

Research Track

Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein (CHAM) has a long and robust history of advancing the care of children through premiere clinical, translational and basic science research. Our residency program strongly values the recruitment of research-oriented medical students who can contribute to the pediatric physician-scientist workforce. We are very fortunate to have both the resources of Montefiore Einstein and our Albert Einstein College of Medicine to support budding pediatric clinician scientists.

Trainees in CHAM’s Resident Research Track are also offered unique opportunities to develop into both leaders in pediatric research, as well as compassionate community-conscious pediatricians. We aspire for our research track alumni to become physician scientists who can “Think local – Act global”.

One applicant per year will be accepted into the pediatric research track which has been approved by the American Board of Pediatrics for the Integrated Research Pathway. For those who qualify, the track provides for up to 11 months of protected research time (excluding continuity clinic) over the three years of training.

The Integrated Research Pathway is designed for MD/PhDs, though we welcome applicants without advanced degrees who demonstrate substantial thematic scholarly experience and a strong publication record.

The Department of Pediatrics has internal resident research grants, commits to supporting trainees who are presenting work at national meetings and provides numerous internal and external mentoring opportunities such as participation in the AMSPDC Frontiers in Science Program.

Please note this track has a separate NRMP match code (3153320C1). All salary and benefits are the same as the categorical and social pediatrics programs.
