Services

The Family Learning Place staff offer a brief orientation and informational session for patients, families and visitors on materials, online resources and Internet searches. We welcome patients, families and visitors to conduct independent research on health topics. Our staff are available for support and guidance M-F 8:30am-5:00pm.

We will perform a literature search for you and prepare a customized informational packet for you.

Requests for customized literature packets can be made in person, over the phone, or via fax or email at familylearningplace@montefiore.org. Please allow at least 48 hours for your request to process. If more immediate assistance is needed, please call your healthcare provider.

Computer and Business Services

Family members are welcome to use our public-access computers and make copies, fax and scan documents.

Health Education Programs

Please be sure to check our monthly events calendar for information on health and wellness events or contact the Family Learning Place for more information.

Family Outreach Specialists

Family Outreach Specialists serve as a link between staff and families. In collaboration with the medical team and the Family Learning Place, they help families learn about hospital services and offer support.

We keep an up-to-date list of support groups, community-based agencies and national organizations that assist children and their families.

Hospital Events

The Family Learning Place holds bi-monthly hospital resource fairs in the CHAM lobby. These fairs highlight Montefiore Health System programs available to our patients and families. Additionally, in partnership with the Child Life Program, the Family Learning Place participates in monthly themed social events for our inpatients to promote a sense of normalcy while hospitalized.

Family Advisory Council (FAC)

The Family Advisory Council (FAC) at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore works closely with the doctors, nurses and staff to support a family-centered environment where children and their families feel welcome and are an important part of the care team. Members include adult family members of children who receive care at CHAM and have chronic conditions or special needs, or had acute conditions that required lengthy treatment.

The Family Advisory Council members are partners to promote family centered care. We:

  • help create and review information and materials for families.
  • give input on hospital programs.
  • serve on hospital committees to improve patient safety and quality of care.
  • provide opportunities for families to meet and support each other.
  • train hospital staff on family-centered approaches to care.
  • represent the hospital at national, regional and local conferences and trainings.

* Please note that Suzanne Pincus Family Learning Place staff and volunteers are not medical professionals. They are not qualified to provide medical advice or suggestions pertaining to your child's health issues. They can only guide you to information and resources. We encourage you to discuss any medical questions with a healthcare professional.
