Betsy Herold, MD received a new R01 from NIAID entitled “Mechanisms Underlying the HIV-HSV Syndemic” in addition to ongoing NIH support for her lab’s HSV vaccine work and development of vaginal rings for prevention of HIV/HSV.
Betsy Herold, MD and William Jacobs Jr., PhD presented their development of a novel vaccine to combat herpes simplex virus (HSV) at the Presidential Lecture in Robbins Auditorium. This annual lecture last year highlights outstanding research at Einstein, which also demonstrates the partnership between the institutions.
Carol Kao, MD (Fellow) received the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society-Pichichero Family Foundation Vaccines for Children Initiative Research Award for her studies on a novel HSV vaccine for prevention of perinatal disease. (Only one award in a national competition open to faculty!)
Clare Burn, PhD Student, Carol Kao, MD (Fellow) and Natalia Cheshenko, PhD, Assistant Professor, Pediatric Infectious Disease were awarded first and second prizes at the 2018 Einstein/Montefiore Young Investigator Research Symposium.
Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) was recognized as an Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence. This 2-year designation is in recognition of and an honor conferred upon institutions that have achieved excellence by integrating best practices in the challenging areas related to antimicrobial stewardship.
Vijaya Soma, MD received the Department of Pediatrics Career Development Award for her studies on Microbial Dysbiosis in Sickle Cell Disease.
PRICE FAMILY FOUNDATION AWARDS: The Pediatric Infectious Disease Division received two Price Family Foundation Awards. Betsy Herold, MD, and William Jacobs, PhD, were granted a “Luminaries Award” for the study entitled “Antibody Dependent Cell mediated Cytotoxicity: The Key to the Prevention of Neonatal Herpes Simplex Viral Infections” and Deepa Manwani, MD, Division of Hematology Oncology, and Viju Soma, MD, Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease, received a “Visionary Award” for their study entitled “Impact Of Penicillin And Hydroxyurea On The Gut Microbiome And Associated Markers Of Disease Severity In Sickle Cell Anemia.”
