Bronx Nutrition and Fitness Initiative for Teens (B’N Fit)

Created by the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Children's Hospital at Montefiore and the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center, the Bronx Nutrition and Fitness Initiative for Teens (B'N Fit) program was developed in 2005 to prevent medical complications related to obesity in adolescence and to recognize and fulfill the unique needs of each teen and promote his or her sense of well-being.

B’N Fit’s mission is to teach teens how to adopt healthy lifelong nutritional and physical activity behaviors while utilizing multiple resources including their family, educational support, and social and community service programs to achieve personal goals.

Adolescents between the ages of 12-21 years receive a wellness assessment that includes a medical, nutritional and psychosocial evaluation by an Adolescent Medicine specialist with a special interest in adolescent obesity. A customized plan, including individualized goal-setting, is offered during one-on-one sessions with the medical provider and referrals are made to community-based adolescent and family-friendly group activities.
