Rhonda Acholonu, MDA Message from the Chair of Pediatrics

Welcome to the Department of Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM). As the Physician-in-Chief at CHAM and the Department Chair, I would like to share a few highlights about the philosophy of education here at CHAM. Education across the continuum is a key priority in the Department. We are not just teaching trainees how to be great pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists – our goal is to train physicians to be lifelong learners.

CHAM is fortunate to have the patients, the programs and most importantly the people to accomplish this goal. At CHAM, you will meet world-renowned faculty with incredible expertise in their fields as well as peers whose scholarly inquiry can be felt at the bedside, in conferences and in their own research pursuits. Our programs and curricula focus on achieving excellence in key areas to achieve health equity including quality improvement, ethics and humanism as well as comprehensive clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills. At the center of our mission are the diverse children and adolescents in the community whom we serve. We are committed to delivering the highest quality and the safest healthcare to the future generations so that they can grow to their greatest potential.

Training pediatricians in the 21st century is both an honor and a privilege. The responsibility to educate the next generation of empathetic and inquisitive clinicians, researchers, educators, advocates and leaders is shared across the Department of Pediatrics.  The Pediatrics Residency Program offers clinical exposure to every subspecialty as well as engaging and thought-provoking curricula to prepare its graduates for their future careers. Fellowship training is available in 19 different subspecialties at CHAM. These programs foster an environment of rich clinical learning and scientific discourse.  I invite you to explore all the opportunities available to our trainees at CHAM and I look forward to meeting you.
