Following a detailed documentation of the patient’s medical history, our epilepsy team arranges a series of neurological tests to definitively diagnose the condition. We often begin with an electroencephalogram (EEG), which records brain waves through electrodes placed on the scalp. In conjunction with video monitoring, the EEG detects abnormalities in the brain’s “wiring,” or electrical activity.

We off the complete spectrum of brain scans, including:

  • Computed tomography (CT)
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)
  • Positron emission tomography (PET)
  • Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)
  • Brain mapping, including grids and depth electrodes

Additionally, we offer the WADA test to patients preparing for surgery. This pre-surgical evaluation maps areas of a patient’s brain that are responsible for such functions as language and memory, for protection during surgery.
