Personal Biography
Despoina M. Galetaki, MD, is an attending physician at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Galetaki’s clinical interests span a broad spectrum of endocrine disorders, including those related to growth, puberty and thyroid function, as well as pituitary disorders and cancer survivorship. She is also dedicated to delivering comprehensive care for individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
After earning her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Athens in Athens, Greece, in 2017, Dr. Galetaki moved to the United States to continue her medical training. She completed her pediatric residency at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in 2022, followed by a pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the Children’s National Hospital in 2025.
Dr. Galetaki’s research interests focus on skeletal dysplasias and genetic causes of short stature, as well as bone disorders and cancer survivorship. She is also interested in drug and biomarker development and is passionate about advancing medical education. She has been principal investigator on funded research projects, and she has shared her work through numerous presentations, both nationally and internationally. Dr. Galetaki’s work has also been published in many peer-reviewed journals, and she is a reviewer for several scientific journals, including the Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism (JPEM), Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism Case Reports and the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, among others.
Dr. Galetaki is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is a member of the Pediatric Endocrine Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Medical Association of Athens. In 2024, Dr. Galetaki received the Human Growth Foundation Award from the Pediatric Endocrine Society.
