Personal Biography
Ai Itoku, MD, is an attending physician at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Pediatric Nephrology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Itoku’s clinical focus centers on treating hypertension and nephrotic syndrome.
After earning her Doctor of Medicine at Kanazawa Medical University in Kanazawa, Japan, in 2011, Dr. Itoku completed her first year internal medicine and pediatrics residency at Yokohama City University Hospital in Yokohama, Japan in 2017, followed by her final year internal medicine and pediatrics residency at Yokosuka Kyosai Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan in 2018. She then moved to the United States to complete an additional pediatric residency at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in 2021, followed by a pediatric nephrology fellowship at CHAM in 2024.
Dr. Itoku’s research focuses on proteinuria. She has given national and international presentations and her work has been published in peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Itoku has also been a reviewer for scientific journals, including Pediatric Nephrology and Kidney International.
Dr. Itoku is board certified by the Japanese Medical Board and the American Board of Pediatrics. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Kidney Foundation, the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology and the American Society of Nephrology. Dr. Itoku is fluent in English and Japanese.
