Our Expertise

The Adolescent AIDS Program (AAP) holds the distinction of being the nation’s first adolescent-focused HIV/AIDS center for clinical care and supportive services. A model multidisciplinary program, the Adolescent AIDS Program strives to maximize the health of all young people living with and affected by HIV as well as LGBTQ youth, and to inspire them to reach their full potential. The AAP clinical service is staffed by a dynamic interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, and case managers. In addition to its clinical service, the AAP also is comprised of a research division, prevention and outreach division, and training and technical assistance division staffed by public health specialists in these fields. In its work to reduce the burden of HIV/AIDS on young people, the program serves and works with several key stakeholders:

  • All youth living with and at risk for HIV infection, especially youth of color and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth
  • Families, friends and partners of youth living with or at risk for HIV infection
  • Health care systems that provide care to young people
  • Community-based organizations serving youth
  • Public policy leaders with the power to improve outcomes for vulnerable youth
